The term linked open data has been in use since at least February, 2007, when the "Linking Open Data" mailing list〔http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-lod/〕 was created.〔http://www.w3.org/wiki/SweoIG/TaskForces/CommunityProjects/LinkingOpenData/NewsArchive〕 The mailing list was initially hosted by the SIMILE project〔http://simile.mit.edu/mail.html〕 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
